3. Aeolus Island

Odyssey Book 10

“Then to the Aeolian isle we came, where dwelt Aeolus, son of Hippotas, dear to the immortal gods, in a floating island, and all around it is a wall of unbreakable bronze, and the cliff runs up sheer.”

They sail for the land of King Aeolus. After Odysseus tells the king their journey, he takes pity of them and host them for a month.  At the end of the month, they want to leave and the king gives Odysseus a bag containing all the air that might bring his ships off course on their way back home. They sail for nine days and on the 10th day when they are close to getting home, his men open the bag to see if there is any gold and all the wind bursts out bringing them back to Aeolus island. They ask the king for help but he kicks them out of his palace thinking they are hated by the gods.
